4 Out of This World Cocktails to Ring In Tonight’s Super Blue Blood Moon
Remember when we thought last year’s solar eclipse was a big deal?
Well, turns out that’s SO 2017, and we’re already on our way onward and upward (literally) to the trifecta of celestial shindigs- tonight’s Super Blue Blood Moon. That’s a lot of adjectives to describe the moon. But what does it mean?
We’re not only getting two full moons in one month, which is already rare (we haven’t had once since 2015, hence “once in a blue moon,” which never made sense to me until this moment), but this Blue Moon is also happening on the same night as a total lunar eclipse.
The last time all of this happened on the same night in the Western hemisphere was 1866.
So yeah, we’re going to celebrate… and celebrate we will, with these 4 cocktails you’ll be over the (super blue blood) moon for.
Tonight’s lunar eclipse will give the moon a blood-red hue, making this super red cranberry juice, pomegranate liqueur and champagne concoction completely on brand for the night.
Fresh-squeezed blood orange juice and bourbon serve as the base for this refreshing cocktail that will go head-to-head with the moon for most vibrant thing you see tonight.
Okay so the Creme de Violette in this gin-based cocktail does give it less of a blue and more of a violet color, but it’s so delicious we’re not going to split hairs. Plus, drink enough of it and you may not even notice.
Come on, with actual Blue Moon beer AND blood orange juice, this cocktail checks off so many boxes it becomes the official mascot drink of the night.
