Here’s How to Celebrate the Opening Ceremonies

The opening ceremonies for the 2018 Winter Olympics are this Friday, and while I think we can all agree that the Winter Olympics pale in comparison to the sunny Summer Olympics (yes, pun intended), that doesn’t mean we can’t find any reasons to celebrate the Ceremonies. For one, it’s a Friday. That’s cause for celebration in and of itself. And sure, it signifies a time where we can all come together to “experience one of the most universally recognized events and symbols of peace in the world.” So that’s something too...I guess.

Regardless of the reason, it’s decided then- we’re celebrating. And whether you're going out or staying in, here's how you can too.

Staying In?

Here are some chillingly-good drink and dessert recipes to make any watch party shine like gold.

Gold Medal Cookies

Yes, these require some fancy cookie cutter tools but the end result will be worth all the effort. ALMOST too pretty to eat.

Olympic Torch Snack Mix

Chocolate-coated Bugles make this snack mix by giving you the feeling that you’re eating miniature Olympic torches. But you know, the inflammable kind.

Marshmallow Skiers

If these little marshmallow guys get too carried away with some Olympic torches and we find ourselves in a s’mores situation, so much the better.

Going Out?

STK Steakhouse

Whether you’re in midtown or downtown, STK Steakhouse is serving a menu of special Olympic-themed cocktails, like a trio of lemon drop shots featuring gold, silver and bronze sugar rims known as “The Winner’s Podium,” at both locations this Friday. Enjoy those alongside a silver seafood tower and desserts like “Olympic Torch Dessert,” a flaming cotton candy with hidden strawberry shortcake inside. Happening at STK Midtown (1114 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY) or Downtown (26 Little West 12th Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY).
